Berlin, October 2nd, 2024
The African Union (AU) has declared 2024 the “Year of Education” with the leitmotif, “Educate an African fit for the 21st century: building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa.” This initiative provides a robust framework to invigorate African-German partnerships and launch new sustainable initiatives.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and further education are crucial for sustainable growth and promoting investment on the African continent. Knowledge transfer and the creation of synergies are essential for forging new common success stories. However, many countries still struggle with insufficient resources and infrastructure to provide quality education for their youth as we advance towards the 2030 SDGs. Beyond individual public policies, collective actions involving the private sector are vital to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Therefore, the 3rd German-African Forum on Vocational Training and Education aims to address topics such as:
- Private sector engagement & best-practice models
- Sector insight: renewable energies & hydrogen
- Digitalization & innovation in teaching and learning
- Innovative financing models
- Workforce development & skilled labour migration
The target groups are African, German, and European political and business decision-makers, training solution providers, project developers, financiers and investors, development cooperatives, and think tanks.

About Organisers
The Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (AV) has supported businesses in their economic engagement on the African continent for 90 years. Currently, the AV has around 500 members, primarily German but also European and African companies, institutions, and individuals.
As a well-connected intermediary, it promotes exchange between German and African representatives from business and politics. In Germany, the AV is the primary contact for economic information and networking. The AV hosts weekly events, ranging from cross-industry economic conferences to country-specific economic talks and delegation trips to African target markets.
In African countries, the Afrika-Verein has an exclusive network. African partner organizations, a reliable network of local honorary representatives, and the members’ expertise, combined with AV’s decades of experience, ensure excellent business contacts.
The Afrika-Verein presents a realistic and differentiated view of Africa. It shares the success stories of its members and highlights economic growth and business opportunities in individual countries, portraying Africa as a continent of opportunities.
