EDIBON collaboration with MOF4AIR, the EU Research Project for CO₂ Capture.

All over the world, there is a massive problem with CO₂ emissions. Renewable energies may be a small solution, but until now, no alternative would solve the real problem. How can we reduce the CO₂ emissions that we release into the environment?

Thanks to this question, an investigation that allowed the use of MOFs (Metal-organic frameworks) in capturing and reducing CO2 emissions was initiated. This is the project with the highest investment in research and innovation within the Horizon 2020 program by the European Union.

The high economic penalties for our emissions and poor air quality led the European Commission to create the MOF4AIR project. This project connected researchers from more than 25 different countries (not all of them belonging to the European Union) and EDIBON, a manufacturer of Pilot Plants, to carry out tests that could reduce CO2 emissions by 55% in 2030 and be climate neutral in 2050.

Once the research and laboratory phases were over (with encouraging data, although inconclusive), they enabled the next stage: tests already with large amounts of CO2 and in highly polluting companies.

Among all the polluting “pilot” companies, three were selected:

  • TCM (located in Mongstad, Norway) that was looking for the reduction of C02 emissions in an oil catalytic cracking chemical company (four major oil companies involved: Gassnova, Equinor, Shell and Total).
  • Tupras (located in Izmit, Turkey), the largest refinery in Turkey.
  • Solamat-Merex (located in Rognac, France), a highly polluting French incinerator.

After selecting the most polluting companies, EDIBON was selected among large multinationals as the manufacturing company in charge of carrying out the studies.

After more than two years of continuous research and innovation in our facilities, our results have been remarkable, and we have improved the process significantly.

The pilot plants developed by our company are finished. After two weeks of technical examinations in our facilities, they show us that the reduction of CO2 achieved after its treatment in the plant is 92%.

This indicates that, in the much closer future than expected, our air will be 92% cleaner. This is a fact that other researchers did not even imagine we would be able to reach this point of the investigation.

These data are incredible and will change the conception we currently have. This research represents a historic revolution in all our industries since the reduction of CO2 is vital for the planet.

We continuously improve to offer the best quality and innovative technology Technical Teaching and Research Equipment.
