Christiani knows the classic process for creating exams inside out. From the design of exams and the layout of technical drawings to printing and logistics: Christiani has been ensuring the reliable and punctual production of exams in printed form for decades. Now the Constance-based company is going on the offensive and using its expertise in exam management for new projects.
The Examination Process in Safe Hands
For more than 50 years, Christiani has been working as a service provider with PAL, the examination task and teaching material development office of the Stuttgart Region Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Christiani is responsible for the production of the industrial-technical examinations for dual vocational training – from typesetting to printing and processing to logistics. The company also creates examination task pools for associations, Chambers of Industry and Commerce and Chambers of Trade and Crafts, which are stored in a database. The provision of the database is also part of Christiani’s service.
“We want to offer our experience from the cooperation with PAL, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce and Chambers of Trade and Crafts to other educational institutions, universities and companies in the future,” explains Helmut Fromm, who is responsible for the examination area as managing partner at Christiani. The aim is also to develop new forms for the “examination of the future”. It is obvious that examinations will be increasingly digital in the future.
New Forms of Examinations
With the topic of digital examinations, new aspects and challenges arise that need to be mastered. In addition to the appropriate platform, there is the question of the right types of tasks and their mix, especially the use of appropriate images and media.
“The digital exam as an on-screen exam offers the chance to combine question types with 3D images, animations or videos in a meaningful way,” Fromm makes clear. Christiani not only has a powerful platform, but also the corresponding expertise in task and media creation and their intelligent combination.
One aspect is important: “Ad hoc solutions do not lead anywhere. Instead, it is about supporting educational partners in the process. A digital examination must not only be practicable but must also make didactic sense and offer added value,” says Oliver Heckmann, member of the Management Board and successor to Helmut Fromm. It is possible that the development is gradual, customers use digital elements in addition to classic printed examinations, a “hybrid examination”, for example.
