What are test projects?
WorldSkills is often referred to as the Olympics of vocational and technical trades. Test projects are the actual tasks competitors must complete during the competition. Designed by international technical experts and based on WorldSkills Occupational Standards, they are executed under strict time conditions across several modules, combining technical execution, problem-solving, planning and quality of work.
How to use test projects in class
If you are looking to raise the bar in your training room, test projects are a powerful training resource. Unlike textbook exercises, they confront students with real, multi-disciplinary challenges—the very tasks that the best young technicians in the world had to execute on an international stage. That context raises the stakes and changes how students engage.
Here are a few ways to use them in your training:
- Run a test project module as a practical assessment instead of a traditional exam
- Set the task under time conditions and ask students to manage their own schedule
- Compare your curriculum to the skills required in the test project to identify gaps
